Gamma Knife Radiosurgery

UVA physicians pioneered the use of Gamma Knife. This powerful instrument directs precise radiation to tumors in the brain without performing brain surgery.

Optune for Glioblastoma 

Tested at UVA and other sites in clinical trials, Optune, available to newly diagnosed patients, treats this most deadly form of brain cancer with electrodes that produce tumor-treatment fields. Learn about the effectiveness of the Optune device.

IMRIS Therapy Suite

This powerful imaging tool allows neurosurgeons to see the results of an operation mid-procedure, so they can instantly evaluate brain tumor removals.

NICO Brainpath®

This technology minimizes the risk of brain damage, using high-definition optics and a navigation system similar to a GPS to reach growths normally considered inoperable. This can be a safe, effective approach to brain surgery
